Light on the Island: A Visit to Lamu

Earlier this year, Joey and Wyatt joined two teammates on a trip to Lamu, a remote island off the coast of Kenya. Known for its strong Islamic heritage, Lamu is a place where nearly every resident identifies as Muslim, and the presence of the gospel is nearly nonexistent.

With a heart to see Christ known in this spiritually dark place, the team walked the narrow, sandy streets of the island, sharing the gospel and distributing over 600 copies of the Gospel of John in Swahili. Each booklet was given with prayer that it would land in the hands of someone hungry for truth.
One powerful moment came when they visited the local prison with ministry partners. There, they were given the opportunity to share the good news of Jesus with every inmate and guard inside.
Please pray with us that the seeds planted during this trip would take root—that the gospel would saturate the island of Lamu and penetrate hearts that have long lived in spiritual darkness. May the light of Christ shine brightly where it’s never been seen before.
