Afghans Among Us: A Door Already Cracked Open

While the Calvary team was with us recently, we spent a morning training at a local Baptist church — equipping believers with simple tools for making disciples. As always, we didn’t want to just talk about it. So after the session, we headed out into the harvest to put it into practice.
One of our local trainees didn’t just go out at random — he knew exactly where to go. He had recently met a few Afghan refugees living in a nearby neighborhood and felt confident the Lord was opening a door. So we followed his lead.
Soon after arriving, a woman approached us on the street, struck up a conversation, and — within minutes — invited us to her apartment to continue chatting. What followed was one of those moments you don’t forget.
She welcomed us warmly and served us tea and snacks, Afghan-style hospitality in full display. As we listened, we learned that her family was part of a larger community — 55 Afghan families from the Hazara people, a heavily persecuted minority group from central Afghanistan. They had fled Taliban violence, and Nairobi had become a temporary refuge for those who had the means to escape.
She invited us back to meet more of her family — and just like that, we found ourselves in the heart of a community we never knew existed.
This wasn’t coincidence. It was God at work through local obedience. Our trainee had already planted relational seeds. Our team got to water them. And now we’re praying for a harvest.
Please join us in praying for the Hazara community here in Nairobi:
• That these families would find healing, safety, and hope
• That relationships would grow and trust would deepen
• That the light of Jesus would shine clearly among them
We’re humbled to be part of what God is doing — and excited to see where this leads next.
